Longtime Durango resident Robert Arthur DeGuelle died of complications of congestive heart failure Saturday, May 5, 2012, in Lakewood. He was 59. Known as “Bobbie,” he was born to Bob and Ann DeGuelle on March 29, 1953, in Grand Junction. His family moved to Durango in 1963.

Mr. DeGuelle spent the rest of his life in Durango, graduating from Durango High School in 1971 and Fort Lewis College in 1975 with a major in business.

He loved playing football and was an offensive lineman in high school and college. Mr. DeGuelle received numerous awards for his performance on the field. In 2006, he was inducted into the athletic hall of fame at FLC.

Mr. DeGuelle was the owner and president of DeGuelle Oil until he sold it in 1999 to Giant Industries.

He continued in football by volunteering at DHS games and helping the coaching staff members at FLC. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and attending NASCAR races.

Mr. DeGuelle is survived by his sisters Laurie Bates of Durango and Teresa DeGuelle of Berthoud; brothers Roger DeGuelle of Craig, Raymond DeGuelle of Berthoud and Ron DeGuelle of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the Fort Lewis College football field/gym.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Fort Lewis College Foundation, 1000 Rim Drive, Durango, CO 81301, with “football program” on the memo line.
