Chamber to offer marketing presentation

The Durango Chamber of Commerce May Lunch and Learn, “151+ Ways to Grow and Market Your Business,” will take place at noon May 23 at the First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.

Bethany Niccum of Thrive: A Creating Wellness Center will lead the presentation, which will give marketing ideas that can be picked from by the businesses in attendance. The cost is $7 for chamber members and $14 for nonmembers. Reservations are required.

Downtown cleanup to be May 25

“I Love a Clean Durango” will be the theme of this year’s Clean Day, which will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. May 25.

Businesses and organizations are asked to provide volunteers to clean downtown before the start of tourist season. Volunteers can check in at 8:45 a.m. at the chamber tent, located in the Strater Hotel parking lot, 699 Main Ave., to get assignments. Complimentary coffee, doughnuts and free T-shirts will be provided.

Chamber to offer women’s golf clinic

Durango Chamber of Commerce will host the “Girls Gone Golfing” event June 1 at Hillcrest Golf Course.

Ladies are invited to wear the color red and learn or improve their golf skills. The cost is $30 for chamber members and $50 for nonmembers. The deadline to sign up is May 18.

Steve Kawell to present at energy forum

Steve Kawell of Durango Solar Homes, will present a paper at the World Renewable Energy Forum about a solar home his firm designed and built in Edgemont Ranch.

The presentation will highlight the passive-solar aspects of the home design. The forum will be in Denver from May 14 to 18.

Home Builders to meet Thursday

Tammy Tyner of Wildfire Mitigation Professionals Association, Butch Knowlton of the La Plata County Office of Emergency Management, and Craig Goodell from the U.S. Forest Service and San Juan Public Lands Center will be the keynote speakers at the Home Builders Association of Southwest Colorado meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Pullman Room of the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

The speakers will address “Wildfire Preparedness in La Plata County,” spotlighting the exponential growth of wildfire risk.

Also addressed will be, “Managing Risk – Keeping Homeowners Insured,” outlining the potential changes in the insurance industry that could affect the insurability of 75 percent of Southwest Colorado’s residences.
