Bear Aware seminars to address bird feeding

For the Birds and Colorado Parks and Wildlife will present Bear Aware seminars this spring and summer to promote “clean bird feeding” from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday and May 30 at 1560 East Second Ave.

Participants will learn more about bears and their behavior in the area and get tips about how to help keep bears safe while enjoying the birds in their yard.

Community memorial service to be held

Hood Mortuary will offer a community memorial service for people who have experienced a recent death or loss, including divorce, separation, death of a pet or any major life loss at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Rotary Park, 1550 Main Ave., behind the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

FLC committee to meet Wednesday

The Business Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will hold a teleconference meeting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 2300 of Berndt Hall at FLC to review the 2012-13 budget parameters.

Community college seeks public comment

Pueblo Community College will present a draft of its proposed 2012-15 Strategic Plan and seek comment during a community session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The event can be accessed at the Southwest Colorado Community College campuses in Room 219 at The Commons building, 701 South Camino del Rio in Durango and the Mancos/Cortez West Campus Learning Center located in Room 109 at 33057 U.S. Highway 160.

Parkinson’s group to meet Wednesday

The Parkinson’s Support Group of Durango will meet from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at The First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive.

The featured speaker will be Luke Angel, a physical therapist.

Disability rights talk scheduled

The talk “Nothing About Me Without Me: Disability Rights, Political Involvement and Our Struggle for Access and Inclusion” will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 21.

Julie Reiskin from the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition will talk with people with disabilities and their allies who will be part of a local committee addressing policy and legislation for access, self-direction and civil rights.

There is a $10 registration fee, which includes lunch.

Commissioners to hold meeting in Bayfield

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will continue a series of “On the Road” meetings at 7 p.m. May 21 at the Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway in Bayfield.

The public is invited to discuss issues of interest or concern about La Plata County.
