Muriel Lee Anderson died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at her home in Durango. She was 64.

Known as Lee, Mrs. Anderson was born Jan. 6, 1948, in Langley Field, Va. to DeLoss and Melva LaFon. The daughter of an Air Force active duty serviceman, Mrs. Anderson moved to various military bases around the country while growing up.

In 1966, she married Russel D. “The Viking” Anderson in Santa Barbara, Calif. In the early 1970s, the couple moved to Pagosa Springs and raised a family.

Mr. and Mrs. Anderson’s family said the couple were wonderful life partners who were active dancers and traveled the country together, especially to be close to family.

“Lee’s family was her life,” her daughter Wanda Anderson said.

Mrs. Anderson’s husband of 46 years, Russel D. Anderson, died one day after she did on Friday, May 11, 2012. The couple’s family said Mr. Anderson died because of “stress and a broken heart.”

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her children Neil and James Anderson, both of Durango, Earl Anderson of St. George, Utah, Ira Anderson of Vernal, Utah, and Wanda Anderson of Graford, Texas; sister Delcia LaFon of Henderson, Nev.; as well as 20 grandchildren and one great grandson.

Cremation will occur. A private family scattering service for both Mr. and Mrs. Anderson will be held this week in Pagosa Springs at the gate of Black Mountain Road to Pagosa Peak.
