Electric co-op names executive assistant

Laura Rome has been named executive assistant at La Plata Electric Association.

In her new position, Rome will handle official business of the cooperative and report directly to LPEA CEO Greg Munro, as well as provide support services to the board of directors. Rome comes to LPEA from Parelli Natural Horsemanship in Pagosa Springs, where she worked for 10 years.

Co-op’s WattWatcher now on summer hours

La Plata Electric Association customers participating in the WattWatcher “Time-of-Use” program are reminded that on-peak, off-peak times adjusted for the season on May 15.

From May 15 through midnight Sept. 14 the summer off-peak hours are from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. To take advantage of the program, customers are urged to use those appliances that draw the most power during the off-peak hours.

Foreclosure avoidance programs discussed

Housing Solutions for the Southwest Blog, a weekly blog about Housing Solutions, will present “New Programs for People Facing Mortgage Default or Foreclosure” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Making Home Affordable, the federal program for loan modifications, has been revamped to allow more options.

Homeowners who were not eligible before may now qualify. Housing Solutions is the only HUD-approved housing counseling agency in Southwest Colorado, acting as an advocate for homeowners in the modification process at no charge.
