A 22-year-old Durango woman was killed Friday in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 550 south of Durango.

The woman was identified as Krystina Robsion.

The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Fred Fisher, 54, also of Durango, who was undergoing surgery Friday afternoon at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Authorities are investigating the possibly that Robsion was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, said Trooper Jonathan Silver, with the Colorado State Patrol.

The crash occurred about 10 a.m. on a straight stretch of road near milepost 13, south of Farmington Hill and north of County Road 302, said Capt. Martin Petrik, with the State Patrol.

Robsion, driving a white 2006 Ford Crown Victoria, was headed southbound on Highway 550 when she crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1998 Dodge 2500 pickup being driven by Fisher.

Authorities were uncertain why Robsion crossed into oncoming traffic.

A witness following Robsion said she was weaving within her lane before swerving abruptly into oncoming traffic.

An autopsy and toxicology report will be performed.

Both drivers were traveling the posted speed limit of 60 mph, which made it a 120-mph impact, Petrik said. Robsion was wearing a seat belt, Fisher was not, he said.

The crash closed a section of Highway 550 for about three hours until 1 p.m. while police and rescue workers cleared the scene.

Traffic was diverted onto county roads 220 and 302 and Colorado Highway 172.
