Dispensaries wrongly linked to teen drug use

I was amazed to read a Durango School District 9-R official connect medical-marijuana dispensaries with rising rates of local teenage drug and alcohol abuse in the article “Helicopter = attention grabber,” (Herald, May 10).

I am sure Kathy Morris has the data to back up her assertion. Are dispensaries selling to minors? Are adults giving prescription medicine to minors? Perhaps she believes drug dealers are purchasing medical marijuana at dispensaries at inflated prices and selling it to elementary school kids at a net loss. And somehow this is also causing alcohol abuse among teens?

Let’s not forget that until very recently, Durango High School was the only school in the nation with a liquor store in its parking lot.
