Walk to benefit nonprofit to be held

The Great Moms Walk will take place at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Santa Rita Park.

The walk will benefit Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) of Durango Area, a nonprofit group for moms. There will be a silent action, raffle, free food, short walk and prizes. Everyone is welcome.

A free breakfast and silent action will begin at 9 a.m.; the walk and bids will take place at 10 a.m. A free lunch and raffle will take place at 11 a.m.

Two essential oil classes to be offered

Herbalist Marija Helt will teach two free classes about essential oils Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday’s class will be held at 6 p.m. at Durango Natural Foods. The class will be on using essential oils for first aid.

Wednesday’s class will take place at 6:30 p.m.. This class will be on essential oils to support emotional well-being. Space is limited for this class, and location will be given upon RSVP.

Wildlife museum opens for summer

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife has opened its Wildlife Museum for summer operations.

Admission is free. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The co-located Durango Fish Hatchery, at Main Avenue and 16th Street, also has opened several of its raceways for public viewing and feeding of the rainbow trout. Group tours are available.

Car-care workshop for women to be held

David Crom and the crew at Mountain Mechanical will offer the Women’s Resource Center’s next Empowerment Workshop titled “Car Care 101” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Mechanical, 349 East Eighth Ave.

Enrollment is limited to 24 women, who will be divided into groups of six to rotate through a variety of car maintenance and repair tasks. The workshop is free to WRC members, and $5 for others.

LPEA to offer workshop about energy efficiency

La Plata Electric Association will offer “Energy Efficiency 101” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sission Library, 811 San Juan St. in Pagosa Springs and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at LPEA’s Durango office, 45 Stewart St.

Attendees should bring a brown bag lunch. Beverages will be available. Ron Ebenkamp, marketing coordinator with Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, LPEA’s primary provider of electricity, will lead the sessions.

During the workshop, in addition to simple energy-efficient efforts and an estimate of kilowatt hours saved with each, information on rebates for energy-efficient investments and more extensive projects will be provided.

Reservations are not required, but requested.

Daybreak Rotary Club to meet Wednesday

Ann Butler, journalist with The Durango Herald, will present the history of Durango’s oldest reading club known as the Durango Reading Club at the Durango Daybreak Rotary Club’s meeting at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Red Cross to hold volunteer orientation

The American Red Cross will hold a volunteer orientation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Southwest Colorado Red Cross Chapter Office, 1911 Main Ave., Suite 282.

The orientation will introduce participants to the Red Cross and its history, will discuss opportunities that are available locally, and will provide the first step necessary to becoming a Red Cross volunteer.
