’Hawks men add three

Men’s basketball roster expands

Fort Lewis College men’s basketball head coach Bob Hofman has been hitting the junior college circuit, adding transfers Wes McKenzie, Lucas Archuleta and Coltrane Powdrill for next season.

McKenzie and Archuleta come to Durango from Otero Junior College in La Junta. McKenzie, a 6-2 wing player, was an All-Region IX third-team member for the 30-6 Rattlers, who advanced to the NJCAA elite eight. He averaged 10.4 points, 3.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds as a sophomore. The Liberty High School graduate and Colorado Springs native was an all-state performer for the Lancers in both basketball and football.

“His ability to play hard on both ends of the floor will really help our basketball team,” Hofman said in a news release.

Archuleta averaged 11.3 points and 3.1 assists for the Rattlers last season. The 6-2 Rio Rancho (N.M.) High School product was the District 1-5A Player of the Year as a senior and a two-time district first-team selection.

“We have had Lucas on our radar for years. He led New Mexico high schools in scoring as a senior and has really continued to develop his game at Otero,” Hofman said.

Powdrill is a 6-4 guard from Moorpark (Calif.) College, where he averaged 21.2 points per game last season for the Raiders. He was a first-team All-Western State Conference selection both seasons at Moorpark and scored 967 points in 49 junior college games, good for a 19.7-points-per-game average.

He’ll join former teammate Matthew Mazarei on the Skyhawks.

“Coltrane is a versatile player that will fit into our system extremely well,” Hofman said.

The trio joins Jacob Gondrezick, Shane Jensen and Nick Tomsick in the current recruiting class as FLC looks to replace the output of departed seniors Matt Billups, Matt Morris, Josh Cassaday and Louie LaBate.
