The Durango Public Library’s first children’s art contest will be on display through July 28 to promote the library’s “Dream Big – READ!” summer reading program. Prizes were awarded in three categories. “It Wouldn’t Be Summer Without Books,” a watercolor-and-ink illustration by seventh-grader Taylor Hayes, tied with eighth-grader Lily Burdick for first place in the Middle School category. Bayfield fourth-grader Ella Gavlinski’s untitled pencil illustration (not shown) won the intermediate (grades second through fourth) category.
