Mancos resident to introduce Obama at Denver fundraiser

A Mancos resident will introduce President Barack Obama at a fundraising event in Denver this afternoon .

Tami Graham was diagnosed with Stage 1 uterine cancer last September, but she didn’t have health insurance because she couldn’t afford it.

She heard about the pre-existing condition insurance plan offered through Obama’s Affordable Care Act and was able to get health insurance after her diagnosis.

Graham saw a post on the Obama Facebook page asking for people who have been positively affected by the health-care act to share their stories.

She shared hers, which was put on a blog about people helped by the act, and she was contacted Monday by the campaign asking if she would like to introduce the president at the fundraising event.

The answer was a no-brainer for Graham.

“I was like ‘Are you kidding? Of course,’” she said. “I’m used to public speaking, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It’s a great honor to meet him and to introduce him in my home state.”

Obama will speak at the Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. The event is sold out.

Graham is a mediator, facilitator and nonprofit consultant. She also is a former KDUR station manager and promotes concerts in Durango under the name “Tami Graham presents ... ”
