Mary Placida Enriquez died Sunday, May 20, 2012, in Farmington. She was 79.
Known as Placida, she was born to Amadeo and Avalina Gonzales on May 1, 1933, in Bondad. She grew up in Durango and attended Durango High School.
On April 2, 1951, she married Nasario Enriquez in Durango.
The Enriquezes lived in Durango until 1993, when they moved to Farmington. Mr. Enriquez owned and operated Durango Precast, and Mrs. Enriquez helped with the family business and was a dedicated homemaker.
“Together they raised a beautiful family full of love, faith and giving,” her family said. “Placida’s passions were spending time with her family, friends, cooking a meal for everyone who came to visit and creating special moments out of everyday occasions. She will always be remembered for her kindness, big heart and love.”
Mrs. Enriquez was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Nasario Enriquez; and son, Jerome Enriquez.
She is survived by her daughters Anna Valdez of Farmington, Catherine Martinez of Bloomfield, N.M., and Elizabeth Lopez of Henderson, Nev.; sister Donnie Gutierrez of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2100 E. 20th St., in Farmington. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, also at St. Mary’s. The Revs. Michael Vigil and Carlos Alvarez, Mrs. Enriquez’ nephew, will be the concelebrants.
Burial will take place next to her husband at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango after the Mass. A reception will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m., also on Saturday, at Holy Trinity Church, 42 Road 3520 in Flora Vista, N.M.
