Gentle yoga classes to be offered at church

Gentle yoga classes with Jennifer Kiel, certified yoga instructor, will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays at St. Markís Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.

This class is ideally suited for seniors and people new to yoga. Drop-ins and beginners are welcome. There will be class today.

Heart Safe to offer first aid, CPR trainings

Heart Safe La Plata will offer these basic first aid and adult CPR trainings at the Durango Fire & Rescue Authority training room, 142 Sheppard Drive:

An adult CPR/AED course will take place at 6 p.m. June 7. The course will cost $50 and provides a two-year certification.

CPR PRO for healthcare professionals will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. June 14. The course will cost $65, and covers adult, child and infant CPR.

Instructors are available to teach at businesses or organizations.

Lasso Tobacco names award winners

The Lasso Tobacco-Celebrating Community Norms Coalition of San Juan Basin Health Department presented three volunteer awards at its May meeting.

Recipients included Jean Walter, spokesperson award; Amita Nathwani, advocacy award; and Cathy Cowles, sustainability award.

The coalition is currently working on strengthening the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act to reduce secondhand smoke exposure and conducting trainings and activities to increase developmental assets for La Plata County youths.
