Kahne’s 13th career victory is Hendrick’s 201st win

CONCORD, N.C. – Kasey Kahne powered to victory in the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night, winning NASCAR’s longest race for the third time for his first win with Hendrick Motorsports.

Kahne also gave car owner Rick Hendrick his 201st Sprint Cup series win.

Kahne crossed the finish line nearly five seconds ahead of Denny Hamlin. Kyle Busch was third and series points leader Greg Biffle fourth.

It was Kahne’s 13th career win and his first since last November in Phoenix.

From the pole to Victory Lane, Webber wins at Monaco

MONACO – Mark Webber won the Monaco Grand Prix from the pole Sunday, while Fernando Alonso narrowly moved into the championship lead in Formula One.

Webber is the sixth different driver to win in the opening six races of the season, a first for the series.

The 35-year-old Australian stayed ahead of Nico Rosberg and Alonso for his eighth career win. It was his second victory in three years at Monaco for Red Bull, which has won the last three at this track from the pole position.


Hesjedal is the 1st Canadian to win the Giro d’Italia

MILAN – Ryder Hesjedal became the first Canadian to win the Giro d’Italia, overtaking Spain’s Joaquin Rodriguez in Sunday’s final time trial in Milan.

Hesjedal started the 21st stage 31 seconds behind Rodriguez but completed the 17.5-mile individual time trial in 34 minutes, 15 seconds. Overall, Hesjedal beat Rodriguez by 16 seconds and had a total race time of 91 hours, 39 minutes, 2 seconds.

Thomas De Gendt of Britain finished third overall, 1:39 behind Hesjedal. Defending champion Michele Scarponi of Italy was fourth.

Marco Pinotti of Italy won the stage in 33:06.

German sprinter Teutenberg takes Stage 3 in Exergy Tour

IDAHO CITY, Idaho – German sprinter Ina Yoko Teutenberg won the third stage of the Exergy Tour in a mass finish Sunday.

Teutenberg’s Specialized-lululemon teammates helped reel in several breaks during the 57-mile mountain stage with two big climbs and set up Teutenberg for the sprint finish to win with a time of 2 hours, 29 minutes, 23 seconds.

Canadian Leah Kirchmann of Optum Pro Cycling placed second and American Megan Guarnier of Tibco-To the Top third.

American Amber Neben of Team Specialized-lululemon finished in the main pack, was given the same time and remained the overall race leader by 9 seconds.

The Exergy Tour will finish today in Boise.


Zach Johnson beats Dufner; Donald regains No. 1 ranking

FORT WORTH, Texas – Zach Johnson won the Colonial for his first victory since also winning at Hogan’s Alley two years ago, pulling ahead Sunday when Jason Dufner finally faltered.

Johnson finished at 12-under 268 for his eighth PGA Tour title.

Dufner closed with a 74. Tommy Gainey was a distant third at 7 under after a 67.

VIRGINIA WATER, England – Luke Donald took the top spot in the world ranking from Rory McIlroy for the third time in 10 weeks, successfully defending his title in the BMW PGA Championship.It’s the sixth change at the top of the rankings between Donald and McIlroy in 12 weeks.

The Englishman won the European Tour’s flagship event by four strokes, closing with a 4-under 68 to finish at 15-under 273 on Wentworth’s West Course.

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – Roger Chapman won the Senior PGA Championship, holding on for a two-stroke victory after leading comfortably throughout the final round Sunday.

His closing 1-over 72 was his worst score of the tournament – but it was enough to give the Englishman a win at 13-under par at the major championship, his first win on the Champions Tour.
