Former Durango resident Vernon Andrew Tucson died Saturday, May 26, 2012. He was 53.
Mr. Tucson was born to Faustine and Lucinda Tucson on Sept. 28, 1958, in Durango. He spent his childhood and early adult years in Durango before moving to Farmington in his late 20s. It was there Mr. Tucson met his future wife, Bonnie Stalcup.
Mr. Tucson worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co., in Durango during his youth, and later as a compressor and pump jack mechanic in Farmington. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was quite successful at both.
Mr. Tucson was a well-known member of his community, fond of barbecue cookouts and loved spending time with his many family members and friends.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; daughter Karmel Tucson; siblings Hector Tucson of Durango, Ronnie Tucson and Karma Conner, both of Farmington, Caesar Tucson of Hayward, Calif., Rosie Chavez of Albuquerque, Arlene Cowger of Aztec, and Acoma Sparks of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will take place at noon, Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
