Sweeping should occur during off-peak hours

It is appalling that the town of Durango can not sweep and clean the streets during off-peak hours. I park on the public streets daily, and find it very negligent for people’s vehicles to be put in harm’s way for the city to sweep the streets at 1 p.m. on a weekday.

This is the peak time for all commuters to be parked in various areas downtown. When I am sitting in my vehicle and the sweeper goes by and catapults rocks that damage my personal property, I find it very careless.

Why can’t the city sweep at 6 a.m. or 8 p.m.? At this time the vehicles will be less abundant and the dirt that has been pushed from repetitive traveling will be easier to access. When the entire street is filled with vehicles, the dirt is just pushed to the sides anyway. I’d like to know the streets are clean, and my vehicle will not be in harm’s way.

When I contacted the city, I was informed that “We are directed by the City Council, and we are just trying to do our jobs.” Well, can something be done to do those jobs during off-peak hours?
