Snow White and the Huntsman.HHH½ The young beauty turns the tables on the evil queen - she gets ninja-like training from the assassin sent to kill her. (See review this page.) Rated PG-13.
Chernobyl Diaries. (No Ebert rating) Human stupidity reaches a new high as a bunch of adrenaline junkies take an illegal tour of Pripyat, the “deserted” town nearest the devastated reactor site. Spoiler alert: It’s not deserted. Rated R.
Men in Black III.HHH (In standard and digital 3-D with surcharge) More fun with aliens and the government spooks who keep us safe from them. For the third installment, there’s time travel and an updated version of Agent K – Josh Brolin is being groomed as Tommy Lee Jones’ replacement. Rated PG-13.
Battleship.HH½ They say this thing was inspired by the classic board game, but I don’t remember silver aliens mixed in with the red pegs. PG-13.
Dark Shadows.HH½ It’s loosely based on the old TV show, but not really: Johnny Depp stars as a Maine man cursed by a witch who then wakes up 200 years later as a vampire in 1972. Kinda funny, kinda horror-y. Rated PG-13.
The Dictator. HHHSacha Baron Cohen is in his element lampooning the military strongman Gadhafi/Saddam types. Rated R.
Marvel’s The Avengers.HHH (In standard and digital 3-D with surcharge.) It takes a lot of superheroes to save the planet. Good thing there are a lot of superheroes out of work. Rated PG-13.
Gaslight Cinema
(102 Fifth St. Next to the railroad depot, 247-8133)
What to Expect When You’re Expecting.HH½ There are several reasons I will never have children. For the same reasons I will never watch this film. Rated PG-13.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. HHH½ England now is outsourcing its senior citizens to India, as well. Rated PG-13.
