Durango native Joni (Potter) Tapia died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 22, 2012, in Albuquerque. She was 39. The cause of death is under investigation.
Mrs. Tapia was born to Johnny S. and Gertrude (Garcia) Potter on March 20, 1973, in Durango. Her father was in the military, so the family moved around a lot as she was growing up. She had lived in Albuquerque for the last 29 years.
Mrs. Tapia worked in the health-insurance industry.
She married Michael Tapia in Albuquerque, and the couple had three children who now range in ages 8 to 14.
She enjoyed listening to music, camping and spending time with her children.
Mrs. Tapia is survived by her husband, Michael Tapia of Albuquerque; children Raeanna Tapia, Noah Tapia and Estevan Tapia, all of Albuquerque; father, Johnny S. Potter of Albuquerque; brothers Joe Potter and Sean Potter, both of Albuquerque; sister, Mary Lucero of Albuquerque; and four nephews and two nieces.
A funeral was held Saturday, May 26, 2012, at French’s Mortuary in Albuquerque.
