Former Bayfield resident Dorothy Hasstedt Mullen Badgley died Saturday, May 12, 2012, in Grants Pass, Ore. She was 94.
Mrs. Badgley was born to Rudolph and Frances Hasstedt on July 23, 1917, in Arlington, which is in southeast Colorado. She graduated from high school in Monument.
On July 18, 1938, she married Willard Mullen on the Florida Mesa. He died in 1945.
A longtime resident of Bayfield, Mrs. Badgley served as postmaster of the Bayfield Post Office from March 1949 until she retired in February 1976.
On June 13, 1959, she married Louis Badgley in Bayfield.
Mrs. Badgley was active in the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Bayfield, where her father was the pastor.
“She enjoyed china painting and was very good at it,” her family said. “Dorothy was also known for the homemade candy she provided to family and friends each Christmas. Her children and grandchildren carry on the tradition.”
Mrs. Badgley moved from Bayfield to Oregon in 1995.
Mrs. Badgley was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Louis Badgley; and son Kenneth Mullen.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Tohill, of Glendale, Ore.; son Larry Mullen of Grand Junction; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life has been held in Oregon. A memorial service will be held in Bayfield later this summer.
