’Hawks softball adds pop, speed

Skyhawks’ recruiting class 5-strong

Fresh off perhaps the best season in school history, the Fort Lewis College softball team is adding to next year’s roster.

The Skyhawks recently added outfielder Melissa Fundora and infielder Tehenia Telliano for next season. Fundora is a 5-4 outfielder from Valencia High School in Valencia, Calif., where she was a two-year starter in center and left field for the Vikings.

“Missy will bring more speed to the lineup,” FLC head coach Kira Zeiter said in a news release. “She is a three-dimensional hitter who can make things happen at the plate no matter who we are facing.”

Telliano is a 5-6 catcher/third baseman from North Valleys High School in Reno, Nevada. She’s expected to provide even more pop to a team that ranked fifth in Division II in home runs per game with 1.25 blasts per contest.

“She will be a tough out and a hitter who will be known in the (Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) soon after arrival,” Zeiter said.

The duo joins early signees Victoria Johnson, Nikki Klepfer and Jeovanna Rios to bump the commitments for next season to five.
