The Open Shutter Gallery has earned its reputation as a showplace for some of the world’s greatest photographers. But for “Looking East,” which will open tonight, the gallery drew on the talents of its own as well as a few selected guests.
Earlier this spring, Open Shutter manager Brandon Donahue and Durango photographer Suzy McGregor traveled to India with Steve McCurry, the renowned Magnum and former National Geographic photographer. The “Group of Seven” also included Jon Kaplan from Guatemala, Californian Julie Billings, Rodrigo Frota of Brazil, Olivier Borson from Madagascar and Heidi Lender from Uruguay.
“Looking East” also includes shots taken on international excursions by Open Shutter owner Margy Dudley, who didn’t travel with the group to India on this latest trip. McGregor and McCurry are represented at Open Shutter and Lender and Borson also have previously exhibited there. McCurry has visited several times in conjunction with his exhibits at the Main Avenue gallery. Kaplan, Billings, Lender, McGregor, Dudley and Donahue will attend tonight’s opening.
