Former Bayfield resident LaVada L. Koehn died Sunday, June 3, 2012, in Colorado Springs. She was 71.
Mrs. Koehn was born Sept. 1, 1940, to Paul August and Frances Emma (Mick) Koehn in Sidney, Neb., where she spent her childhood and teen years. Growing up, her family took her to many parts of Colorado.
She married Jerry Stovall in October 1960 in Sydney, Neb. The marriage later ended in divorce.
In 1977, Mrs. Koehn and her family moved to Bayfield, where she lived for more than 30 years.
She filled a variety of roles throughout her life, including “stay-at-home mom, neighborhood Avon lady, locker plant meat wrapper, and high school cafeteria lunch lady.” She retired from Kmart in Durango when the store closed during the late 90s.
“Her career led her through a wide range of experiences,” her family said.
She enjoyed collecting cookbooks, trying out new recipes, making crafts and attending craft shows, meeting people and spending time with family and friends, her family said.
Mrs. Koehn is survived by daughters Mia Stovall of Bayfield, Martha Davis of Colorado Springs, Marsha Stovall of Denver, and Michelle Koehn of Gilcrest; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.
