Forest Service awards stewardship contract

The U.S. Forest Service has awarded a long-term stewardship contract to J.R. Ford of Pagosa Springs (doing business as Pagosa Cattle Co.), for removal of saw timber, products other than logs and biomass on the San Juan National Forest.

Operations will include forest thinning and biomass removal from public lands managed by the San Juan National Forest’s Pagosa and Columbine ranger districts. Projects will take place within a 50-mile radius of Pagosa Springs.

‘Starting Your Business’ workshop to be held

The Small Business Development Center at Fort Lewis College will offer the Starting Your Business Workshop from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Tuition is $25 for the general public, $20 for Durango Chamber of Commerce members.

Marketing sessions opens to entrepreneurs

The Small Business Development Center at Fort Lewis College will present the first of three Marketing for Smarties Challenge sessions at Durango Space on June 21.

The next two sessions will be July 12 and Aug. 9. All sessions will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost is $149. Coaches Jasper Welch and Jay Davis will guide participants through a development program.

Hair After hires new men’s stylist

The Hair After, 1316 Main Ave., located next to Auto Zone, welcomes Beverly Palumbo to its staff.

Palumbo offers $15 men’s haircuts. She is a men’s hair specialist and was previously at Signature for Men. Palumbo owned her own barber shop in Montrose for seven years.

Lewis Mercantile Co. in Bayfield has acquired the operations of Building Specialties in Durango.

Lewis Mercantile will continue to operate in Durango under the “Building Specialties” name. It will continue to offer the same products, as well as the same staff members and service.
