Reception to honor Bill Esterbrook

Before the Durango School District board meeting June 19 there will be a “thank you” reception for Bill Esterbrook from 5:30 to 6 p.m. in the board room in the Administration Building to express the district’s gratitude for Esterbrook’s year of service as interim superintendent.

The board meeting will begin at 6 p.m. All are welcome.

This will be the last school board meeting of the 2011-12 school year.

Host families needed for exchange students

Educational Merit Foundation, a nonprofit, educational exchange organization, is looking for volunteer host families for French and German high school students for the 2012-13 school year.

The high school students are between the ages of 15 and 18. They have medical insurance, spending money for personal expenses and expect to share their host family’s daily life, including household responsibilities.

Head Start program accepting applications

The Southern Ute Montessori Head Start/Early Head Start program in Ignacio is accepting applications for the 2012-13 school year.

Head Start serves children ages 3-5, and Early Head Start serves pre-natal women and children from 6 weeks to age 3. Families of children with special needs are encouraged to apply. There is no charge to qualifying families, regardless of income.

The service area boundaries are within the exterior boundaries of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation and the Ignacio School District, plus an area of the Bayfield School District south of U.S. Highway 160, west to County Road 509 and east to county roads 526/523. Transportation is available for Head Start students.
