Native Plant Society announces programs

The San Juan/Four Corners Native Plant Society will host these programs:

A field trip, “Wildflowers and Ferns of the Vallecito Creek Area,” will take place June 23. Leader John Bregar will take participants along the Vallecito Creek Trail in the Weminuche Wilderness east of Durango.

A wildflower walk in Mesa Verde National Park will take place Sunday. Leaders Bryan Wender, a vegetation ecologist, and Merran Owen, a biological technician, will take participants along the Prater Ridge Trail.

Navajo State Park announces programs

Navajo State Park in Arboles will host these programs:

A bird nature hike with birding expert William Morris is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at the Sambrito Wetlands Trail on the western edge of Navajo Lake.

A bird nature hike with Becky Gillette, Southwest regional director of Audubon Colorado, is set to begin at 9 a.m. June 23 at the Piedra Watchable Wildlife Area.

Participants should bring water, day pack, binoculars and camera and wear clothing and footwear suitable for an easy to moderate hike on dirt trails. Extra binoculars and a sighting scope will be available.
