Arts Briefs for June 15

Focus will be on flowers at Saturday photo class

Durango Nursery & Supply will host a flower and garden photography class with Robert Bridges from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Students will explore the world of close-up photography and learn how to take intimate photos of flowers and landscapes.

Admission is free (bring your own camera). The workshop will be held at 271 Kay Cee Lane.

For more information, call 259-8800.

Frost to speak Thursday at photography club

The Durango Photography Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pine Room at the La Plata County Fairgrounds Extension Building.

The speaker will be Kit Frost, who will show traditional photography, some large, medium and digital format. Frost also will show her landscape portfolio of simple, traditional skills that she calls “no-tricks” photography, and discuss organization and editing in Lightroom.

Frost’s work celebrates the unpeopled landscape and the minimally manipulated image. She taught black-and-white photography to high school students for 20 years and spent 15 years teaching at the Maine Photographic Workshops. She moved to Durango in 1995 and spends most weekends teaching others how to find their vision.

The club’s monthly photo theme for June is Black & White (monochrome). Members and guests may bring up to three photos for comments and critique. The photo selected as best of the night will receive a club blue ribbon.
