Virginia Miller, mother of Bayfield resident Keah Curran, died May 26, 2012, in Crystal River, Fla. She was 94.
Mrs. Miller was born to Alva and Frances West on May 31, 1917, in Little Rock, Ark. She graduated from Little Rock Central High School and married George E. Runshang Sr. in 1937 in Little Rock.
The couple moved to Sun City, Ariz., in the late 1970s, and Mr. Runshang preceded Mrs. Miller in death in 1982.
In 2000, Mrs. Miller moved to Montrose, where she lived for seven years, until moving to Crystal River, Fla., in 2007.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and was active in the Holy Souls Catholic Church in Little Rock.
“She was an avid hunter, fisherman, world traveler and golfer (even having a hole in one to her credit),” her family said.
She was the Tampa Tarpon Tournament state champion in 1957, and her family remembers her hunting in the Duck Club’s icy waters in hip waders.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter Keah Curran of Bayfield and Mesa, Ariz.; son George “Bud” Runshang Jr. of Homosassa, Fla.; as well as two granddaughters.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Bayfield. Burial will follow at Pine River Cemetery.
