Music camp to be held in July

Stillwater Foundation and Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango will present “World Beat Music Camp” for children ages 5 to 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23 to 27 at the fellowship, 419 San Juan Drive.

The cost is $125 plus three parent volunteer hours. The camp will include introduction to drumming technique, movement and voice activities, rhythm and team building games and more.

Each afternoon will feature live performances from local groups playing a variety of world genres, including salsa, West African, Caribbean and Afro-Cuban.

The week will end with a performance by the kids at 2 p.m. July 27. Healthy snacks and lunches will be provided.

DHS Activities Office announces hours, fees

The Durango High School Activities Office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday in June.

The office will be closed in July and reopen Aug. 1. Red cards for 2012-13 fall sports can be issued by the Activities Office with the proper paperwork and fees. To view requirement, visit dhs.durangoschools.org. Fall sports will officially begin Aug. 13.

These will be the Durango School District student fees for athletics/activities: $75 per individual, $150 per individual cap and $200 per family cap.

These will be the non-9-R student fees for athletics/activities: $112.50 per individua, $225.00 per individual cap and $300 per family cap.

St. Paul’s preschool accepting applications

St. Paul’s Lutheran Preschool is accepting applications for its new 2012 fall preschool classes.

Children ages 2.5 to 5 years will be considered. St. Paul’s is located across from Miller Middle School at 2611 Junction St.

Police academy available in Durango

The fall 2012 full-time police academy at the Southwest Regional Law Enforcement Academy in Durango is now accepting applications.

The training lasts 18 weeks and provides the essentials to take the Colorado State P.O.S.T. exam. Classes start in August, and the deadline to apply is July 9.

Early childhood council to meet July 9 in Cortez

The Montelores Early Childhood Council will meet at 11:45 a.m. July 9 at the Cortez Church of Christ Annex, 631 Montezuma Ave.
