Longtime area resident Robert D. Decker died Thurday, June 7, 2012, at his ranch five miles south of Redmesa. He was 40.
Known as “Duke,” he was born to Billie Decker on March 15, 1972, at Peninsula Hospital in California.
Mr. Decker grew up in Durango and graduated from Durango High School. The Decker family moved to La Plata County in the 1920s.
“Robert was known as an excellent welder and fabricator ,” his family said. He had worked at several manufacturing and fabricating companies in the Four Corners.
Mr. Decker’s mother was killed the same day he was.
He is survived by extended family members.
A joint memorial service with his mother, Billie Decker, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at the Marvel United Methodist Church, 129 County Road 133.
The cause of death was homicide.
