Register by Sunday for music camp
The Stillwater Foundation and Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango will offer a World Beat Music Camp for kids ages 5 to 11 from July 23to 27.
The camp is limited to 20 participants. Sunday is the deadline for registration and payment.
The camp will be held at the UUFD at 419 San Juan Drive. The cost is $125 plus three parent volunteer hours.
The camp will include an introduction to drumming technique, movement and voice activities, rhythm and team-building games, and daily performances by local groups. The week will culminate with a world music performance by the kids at 2 p.m. July 27 for parents and friends. Healthy snacks and lunches will be provided.

Art sale will benefit cancer charities
Nancy Conrad and Kathy Myrick will host their fourth annual Art Sale Open House from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at 2560 West Second Ave.
The event is a benefit for the American Cancer Society and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. The artists will donate 30 to 50 percent of all sales to the organizations. Wine and appetizers will be served.
Artwork for sale will include Conrad’s fused-glass jewelry, silver and mixed-metals jewelry, and Myrick’s framed and matted photographs and notecards. Cindy Scholfield also will sell her mixed-metals jewelry.
A donation of $10 is suggested at the door.

Ignacio gallery to host outdoor art sale
The Dancing Spirit Gallery in Ignacio will put on a Yard and Garden Show from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The show will feature yard and garden sculptures, paintings, whimsical displays, windchimes, flowers and other items by artists Tanya Lawyer, Amy Stuck, Kasey Correia, Diana Ruthers, Lorraine Trenholm and Angie Carnrite.
The show will be held outside and inside the gallery, so sunscreen or protective clothing is recommended. Dancing Spirit is located at 630 Goddard Ave. across from Roots Natural Foods and Wells Fargo Bank.

Museum is new home for wine tasting
The Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino del Rio, is the new home for Alternative Horizons’ major fundraising event, the Wine & Music Fest. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.All proceeds will be donated to Alternative Horizons to provide resources, services and alternatives to victims and survivors of domestic violence.
The event will feature a wine tasting sponsored by The Wine Merchant, a silent auction, live music by Actual Proof and hors d’oeuvres by Norton’s Catering. This event is held outdoors under tents, rain or shine.
Tickets cost $30 in advance at The Wine Merchant, First National Bank of Durango main branch, The Durango Discovery Museum or from any Alternative Horizons board member. Tickets purchased at the event are $35.
