Former Durango resident Maurice E. LeGault died Thursday, June 14, 2012, in La Center, Ky. His age was not disclosed.
Mr. LeGault was born to Lawrence Joseph and Lucille Corrine (Cline) LeGault in Hettinger, N.D.
He earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Minnesota.
Mr. LeGault was an educator in the field of vocal music and began his teaching career in the public school system in Cambridge, Minn.
He directed the choirs at Fort Lewis College from 1972 to 1980, as well as teaching at the college level in New Mexico, South Dakota, Oklahoma, in the Chicago area and at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Mr. LeGault also directed a number of choral and musical performances during his professional career.
He lived in Durango from 1989 to 2002.
In 1988, he married Bonnita Kay Davis in Durango.
Concurrent with his musical teaching career, he also continued the operation of LeGault Floor Finishing, a family business founded by his father in 1934.
Mr. LeGault was baptized at Faith Lutheran Church in 1964 in Isanti, Minn.
“Maurice had a true zest for life and a strong work ethic,” his family said. “He never wanted to be bored or waste time. Maurice enjoyed singing, listening to music, traveling, reading magazines and keeping up with current events and politics. He especially cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.”
Mr. LeGault is survived by his wife of 24 years, Bonnita Kay (Davis) LeGault, of Vienna, Ill.; daughters Julie Ann Carlson of Foley, Minn., and Michelle Rae LeGault of Atlanta; two grandchildren; a niece and a nephew; and numerous extended family members.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Vienna, Ill. A memorial service will be held in Colorado at a later date.
