Lifelong Durango resident Eloida Allen died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango. She was 97.
Mrs. Allen was born Sept. 21, 1914, in Dulce, N.M., and was adopted at an early age by area rancher Homer Ford and his wife, Rose.
After graduating from Durango High School in 1932, she attended business school in Albuquerque.
In 1938 she married Murray Allen.
Mrs. Allen loved music and was well-known for playing piano with area dance bands in the 1950s and 1960s.
She also enjoyed gardening and especially loved her roses.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Murray Allen, in 1976.
She is survived by her son, Vaun Allen; and one grandson.
Cremation has occured. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Greenmount Cemetery.
