Animas River workgroup to meet Thursday

The River Protection Workgroup for the Animas River will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kendall Mountain Recreation Center in Silverton.

The focus of the meeting will be to discuss protection tools brainstormed for Mineral Creek and Cement Creek. No final recommendations will be made.

The purpose of the workgroup is to make recommendations about how to protect values on the Animas River upstream of Bakers Bridge, including several tributaries, while allowing for suitable water development to continue.

Republican candidate meet, greet in Ignacio

The La Plata County Republicans will host a meet-and-greet with local Republican candidates Scott Tipton, J. Paul Brown, Kellie Hotter and Harry Baxstrom at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sky Ute Casino and Resort in Ignacio.

There will be a prime rib buffet dinner and silent and live auctions supporting the candidates.

Grooming workshop for kids to be held

Paws ’N Playtime and the La Plata County Humane Society will sponsor a “K-9 Kamp” workshop from Monday to Wednesday at Paws ’N Playtime, 214 Bodo Drive.

Four different children can attend each day with two different dogs from the humane society. Participants will learn how to bathe the dogs, trim their toenails, clean their ears, how to dry them and the importance of grooming.

Paws ’N Playtime provides free grooming for every dog adopted from the humane society.

Beekeepers association to meet Thursday

Four Corners Beekeepers Association (the Buzz Club) will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Florida Baptist Church, 30296 U.S. Highway 160.

Durango resident Judy Duke will present about Zimbabwe and her work with an orphanage there at the Daybreak Rotary Club of Durango’s meeting at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
