Little Sand Fire almost 20,000 acres

As fires south and west of Durango lit up over the weekend, the Little Sand Fire northwest of Pagosa Springs has continued to burn. The fire had burned 19,566 acres by Sunday evening.

It was 31 percent contained, according to a Colorado Division of Emergency Management update.

The fire has been burning for almost six weeks. It was sparked by lightning May 13 and is burning through land managed by the San Juan National Forest.

Pagosa Springs and most Forest Service and private campgrounds continue to be open for business.

The fire’s growth potential was rated at high as of Sunday.
