United Way of Southwest Colorado’s plans for its fall and winter fundraising campaign are nearly complete.
Each year, the fundraising drive is made up of three pieces – workplace fundraising, where employees are asked to donate a few dollars a paycheck; a direct mail and email appeal that asks for one-time donations and fundraising events.
This year, we are chock-full of fundraising events. Each event requires volunteers to help pull them off. Please contact me at 247-9444 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in learning how to help.
The events will start with the 17th annual United Way and Durango High Noon Rotary Club Charity Golf Classic. This partnership is one of the longest-running fundraising events in the area. It will be held July 27 at Dalton Ranch Golf Club. Volunteers are needed to help check in golfers, work the contests on the course and help clean up when the event is over.
Next up will be the Michael Franti and Spearhead show Aug. 11 at Three Springs. Tickets are available now at Animas Trading in downtown Durango and online at www.frontgatetickets.com. United Way is recruiting more than 50 volunteers to work various parts of the event. In return for volunteering, we offer you a free entry to this great show.
United Way is also helping with the USA Pro Cycling Challenge that will kick off Aug. 20 in Durango. We will be managing the starting point that will be set up that morning in Buckley Park. We’ll have a breakfast, nearly 100 booths from local vendors and organizations, and a beer garden. There will be a JumboTron broadcasting the video of the race as well as entertainment. Hundreds of volunteers are needed for all aspects of the race. Go to www.durango2012.com to volunteer.
On Aug. 25, United Way and CookManFood.com will host the 14th annual San Juan Brewfest. United Way wishes to thank our new title sponsor Chevron for its help in making this great event happen again.
Held in downtown Durango, this event is Durango’s only real beer festival. Up to 40 breweries from around the nation will participate. Tickets are only $25 for general admission and $50 for a VIP ticket. Learn more at www.sanjuanbrewfest.com. United Way needs volunteers to set up, work the gate and clean up after the event concludes. In return, we will give you a free entry to the event before or after your shift.
United Way is working with Four Corners Broadcasting on the 16th annual Radiothon. This is one of the best auctions in the region every year. Nearly $100,000 worth of goods and services will be auctioned Sept. 7. Tune in to any Four Corners Broadcasting station to hear about the items and place your bid. Check out the Radiothon website at www.uwradiothon.org for more information. Volunteers are needed to take bids over the phone the day of the event, as well as to help set up and break down the Radiothon.
