Crews get a handle on State Line Fire

Firefighters on Tuesday continued to make progress on the State Line Fire, bringing the Bondad-area blaze to 80 percent containment, according to a news release from the Durango Interagency Dispatch Center.

A quiet day Monday helped fire officials get the upper hand.

There were no flare-ups, which allowed firefighters to make good progress on line construction and improvement, according to an earlier news release.

Crews worked on extending the fire line and mopping up the burn area.

Several engines and a helicopter were on hand to provide structure protection and assist firefighters.

One crew, the San Juan Hotshots, was released and reassigned to the Weber Fire near Mancos, leaving about 150 personnel on the fire.

The pre-evacuation notice, issued Saturday, was lifted.

The fire along U.S. Highway 550 near Bondad ignited Saturday and eventually spread to 350 acres. One house was burned. The cause is still under investigation.
