When the Weber Fire near Mancos broke out last Friday, Susan Matteson started painting this view of it Saturday. The Dolores artist is represented at the Goodnight Trail Gallery in downtown Mancos, and the fire interrupted last weekend’s Mancos Open Studios Tour, leaving Matteson time to immortalize the early stages of the fire. “It’s a scary kind of beauty,” Matteson said of the scene. She’ll donate the proceeds from sales of the paintings to the Mancos Fire Department. Enlarge photo
