Campers reminded about fire restrictions
Hikers, backpackers and campers are reminded that current fire restrictions ban open fires in all backcountry areas and most campgrounds in the region.
The only places in the San Juan National Forest and BLM Tres Rios Field Office area where open fires are permitted are inside permanent fire grates at the higher-elevation Sig Creek, South Mineral, Little Molas, Cayton, Burro Bridge, West Dolores and Mavreeso campgrounds, the Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch reported this week.
Petroleum-fuled stoves are permissible in the backcountry and other campgrounds, but campers still should use caution.
