Virtual academy announces events

The Colorado Virtual Academy – a public, online school serving students from kindergarten to 12th-grade statewide – will offer these events:

A question-and-answer session will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 25 at Steaming Bean Coffee Co., 915 Main Ave.

A “Discovery Day” will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. July 27 at the Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino del Rio. This is an opportunity to visit with staff members and currently enrolled families. There will be a curriculum sample, demonstration of a lesson and a question-and -answer session.

St. Paul’s preschool announces events

St. Paul’s Lutheran Preschool will hold these events:

The preschool offers a “Summer Fun Program.” Children will learn about the first Americans, have “fun in the sun” and ride the trolley on field trips each week. Children 2½ to 5 years will be considered.

In July, the students will participate in the St. Jude’s Trike-a-thon and ride trikes to visit the Four Corners Health Care Center and back to school to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To donate, call 247-1368.

Summer program open to high school students

Fort Lewis College and the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County will offer a summer program for local high school students from July 25 to 27.

The program is designed to encourage confidence and reduce barriers for students who want to attend college.

Students will participate in a variety of activities to increase their knowledge of college culture.

This program will serve 16 rising freshmen and sophomores who are members of the Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County.
