Mercy buys local practice

Herald Staff Report

Mercy Regional Medical Center on Friday announced it is purchasing Durango Family Medicine, one of the oldest family practices in the Four Corners.

The sale is scheduled to close Aug. 1.

“Primary care is the foundation of health in our community,” Mercy CEO Kirk Dignum said in a statement. “We are pleased to welcome these talented providers to Mercy and to expand the breadth and depth of primary care services.”

Physicians Patrick Kearney, Steve Lavengood, Joe Murphy and Martin Pirnat, nurse practitioner Bobbi Rakita and clinic staff members will become Mercy employees.

The clinic’s new name will be Mercy Family Medicine. Everyone from newborns to senior citizens will be treated. But prenatal care and obstetrics will be phased out.
