Republican Women to meet July 17

The Southwest Republican Women will meet at noon July 17 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The featured speaker will Dr. Bill Plested, former president of the American Medical Association. Plested is a retired cardio-thoracic surgeon. He will speak about “Obamacare – What Now?” and will address the issues regarding health care after the recent Supreme Court decision.

Daybreak Rotary Club will meet Wednesday

The Durango Daybreak Rotary Club will meet at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Fellow members will present a program about their experience as volunteers aiding with the Navajo “Adopt A Native Elder” program that supplies staples and medical needs to the grandmothers and grandfathers who still live traditional lives on the Navajo Reservation.

The public is invited.

Climb a 14er fundraiser to take place Sunday

The third annual Climb a 14er, a fundraiser for Volunteers of America Southwest Safehouse and Durango Community Shelter, will take place at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Handies Peak.

This is a three- to four-hour moderate hike from base camp at American Basin. All funds raised are tax deductible.
