Lunch and Learn to be held July 25

The Durango Chamber of Commerce July Lunch & Learn called “Yes!! Homeownership in La Plata County is Possible” will be held at noon July 25 at the First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. Ninth St.

The Regional Housing Alliance will discuss its free home buyer education and financial counseling, as well as its down-payment assistance, access to tax-credit programs and assistance to businesses with the implementation of an employee housing-benefit program. Reservations are required. The cost is $7 for members and $14 for nonmembers.

Animas Chocolate opens new location

Animas Chocolate Co. will host a grand opening for its new location from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at 555 Rivergate Lane, Unit B1-103.

The company handcrafts chocolate that include designs and flavors that reflect specific aspects of the Animas River corridor, including Smelter Hot Chocolate Mix and the Twilight Truffle. The bars and truffles are handmade using quality ingredients and no added preservatives. The company currently provides wholesale, retail, custom and wedding/event chocolate options.

All products are created and made by Carley Felton, owner and chocolatier of the company. Felton moved to Durango in 2006 after graduation from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in history and French. She began forming Animas Chocolate Co. in September 2011.

Recently, the company moved from its original location in Bodo Industrial Park to a production kitchen and retail shop in the Rivergate Complex. Normal retail hours are from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to Friday or by appointment.

Durango Surgicenter to cease operations

The Durango Surgicenter LLC at 316 Sawyer Drive will cease operations Aug. 1.

Records may be obtained for the next six months at the above address or by calling 259-3818.

Durango Plastic Surgery, at the same address, will continue to operate in the same building.
