Kendrick Lee Wauchope

Arboles resident Kendrick Lee Wauchope died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver. He was 67.

Known as “Ken,” he was born to Martin and Marie Wauchope on April 9, 1945, in Fayetteville, Ark.

He had a wonderful career as a professional classical musician, his family said, playing string bass with the Kansas City Philharmonic from 1968 to 1970, and the Houston Symphony from 1970 to 1993. He studied under Leslie Martin with the Boston Symphony Orchestra while attending the New England Conservatory of Music from 1965 to 1968.

On July 23, 1967, he married Edie Kierstead in Glens Falls, N.Y. The marriage ended in divorce in the late 1980s.

Mr. Wauchope moved to Arboles in the early 1990s. During his years of retirement, he played bass guitar with the Praise and Worship Team at the Ignacio Community Church for 13 years. He also enjoyed photography and building canoes.

Mr. Wauchope was preceded in death by his son, Mark Wauchope, in 2004.

He is survived by his daughter, Katie Woodside, of Pearland, Texas; and three grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 22, 2012, at the Ignacio Community Church, 405 Browning Ave. A photo video will be played before the service.
