No horsing around with this pair

Cherie Morris woke up Friday morning to her husband, Jack Llewellyn, saying: “Check this out.” What she saw was two horses chasing a bear near their house on the Florida Mesa south of U.S. Highway 160. When the ursine couldn’t find a way over a fence enclosing the pasture, it stopped and pulled itself erect.

The horses, deciding that discretion was the better part of valor, backed off. The timeout allowed Morris a chance to get her camera, a recent birthday present, and adjust the telescopic lens. When the horses resumed the chase, Morris was ready. Llewellyn said when he first witnessed the drama, four horses were pursuing the bear. He said he’d never seen a bear on Florida Mesa in 20 years.
