Medicare supplements presentation to be held

A Medicare supplements presentation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 8 in Program Room 3 at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Participants will learn the different plans that are available, their coverages and cost.

Chimney Rock to host full moon program

Chimney Rock Archaeological Area will host a full moon program at 6:45 p.m. today at its location on Colorado Highway 151.

Visitors will learn about the ancestral Puebloans, the archaeological relationship of Chimney Rock to Chaco Canyon, and archaeo-astronomy theories. Tickets are $15. It’s designed for people 12 years and older. After the program, guests can join the full-moon viewing program which will feature a lecture about “The Origin and Significance of Our Only Moon” and an opportunity to view the surface of the moon.

The cost for this program is $5. The gate will be open from 5:45 to 6 p.m. Participants should bring flashlights, water, cushions and blankets or coats. An early tour of the Great Kiva Trail Loop also will take place at 4:45 p.m. today. The tour is $5.

Wolfwood Refuge to host event Saturday

The Wolves of WolfWood Refuge from Southwest Colorado will host its sixth annual event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the 5 Branches Camper Park on Vallecito Lake.

A wolf educational talk will be held at 1 p.m. There will be a hot dog benefit lunch at noon with proceeds going to support WolfWood Refuge. The event will feature petting, photo opportunities, a chance to meet the refuge’s new ambassador wolves and more. Dogs are not allowed.

Veterans Service office announces closure

The La Plata County Veterans Service Office will be closed from Tuesday through Aug. 14, and will reopen Aug. 15.

To schedule an appointment with the Veterans Service Officer during the closure for a time after Aug. 14, call 382-6150. If emergency assistance is needed during the Veterans Service Officer’s absence, call 382-6121.

Gluten-free baking presentation to be held

“Simple Summer Gluten Free Baking” with Minna Jain will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Durango Natural Foods, 575 East Eighth Ave.

The presentation will include recipes, seasonal ingredients and free samples.

Human-bear conflict presentation to be held

Bear Smart Durango Director Bryan Peterson will give a slideshow presentation called “Talking Trash: Human-Bear Conflict in the Durango Area” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Schank House, 17460 County Road 501 at Vallecito Lake.

Food and beverage will be available. Donations are appreciated.
