Ignacio resident Clara Laverne Olson died Monday, July 30, 2012, at her home. She was 84.
Mrs. Olson was born to William and Vennie (Fraze) Huber on Aug. 8, 1927, in Louisville, Ky. She grew up and attended schools in Louisville.
She met her future husband, Robert Olson, at a United Service Organizations event while he was serving in the military. The couple married Sept. 11, 1948, in Louisville, where they raised their family. The Olsons moved to Colorado after their retirement.
The couple completed building their home in Ignacio in 1987.
“Clara was a prideful homemaker and took great care of the family home,” her family said. “She liked to garden and was very active with her church, First Baptist of Ignacio. She was a very wonderful and caring person.”
Mrs. Olson was preceded in death by her daughter Martha Olson.
She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Robert Olson, of Ignacio; sons Rick Olson of Evansville, Ind., and Roger Olson of Louisville; brother James Huber of Louisville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 East Third Ave. A funeral will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, also at Hood. The Rev. Frank Kihn of First Baptist Church of Ignacio will officiate. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
