Seminar about prayer to be held Aug. 12

A seminar on “Prayers of Intercession” will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 12 at First United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall, 2917 Aspen Drive.

Presenter Sharon LaBow, of ShareInLife Retreats will teach about prayer and understanding of prayers.

Lunch will be offered at 12:30 p.m. for $7

Catholic comedian to perform in Cortez

St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church will host inspirational comedian Doug Brummel at 6:47 p.m. Aug. 20 and 21. The church is on the corner of Market and Montezuma streets in Cortez.

Brummel is a Catholic inspirational comedic character-actor in his one-man character-changing show called “Lighten Up!” Admission is free.

Durango Methodist church to host financial classes

First United Methodist Church of Durango, 2917 Aspen Drive, will host a new and updated “Financial Peace University.”

Developed by Dave Ramsey, consumer advocate and radio personality, the class has helped families learn to manage and control their personal finances. There will be a free preview at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 and 10:30 a.m. Aug. 12. The nine-week course will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Aug. 23.
