Finding Tony; never give up on a friend

Once upon a time there was on old Army veteran named JD, who lived all alone in Durango, except for his beloved dog and faithful companion, Tony. Tony was a black and white shih tzu who was born on Oct. 25, 2006. JD took Tony home on Christmas Eve 2006, and from that day on, the two were inseparable.

Time went on and things were good. One early morning Tony disappeared. JD was heartbroken. He made fliers and phone calls. He searched and searched; high and low for days and days without end. Finally, JD decided to leave beautiful Colorado and go back to Ohio where his daughter and family were. He was deeply affected by his loss of his buddy, Tony. He could not even stand to look at a person with a dog, because it just brought his pain fresh up to the surface and he continued to mourn his Tony.

Then in July, JD got a phone call telling him his dog was at the Humane Society in Durango. He called and found out that a dog matching Tony’s description and age was at the humane society and was going to be put up for adoption that very day.

JD called his one friend who still lived in Durango and asked her if she could go and check it out. She went out and took some pictures and videos and emailed them to JD immediately.

And miracle of miracles, it was Tony!

Several people came together to make this reunion possible including, but not limited to:

The La Plata County Humane Society and its manager, Chris, who went above and beyond the call of duty to help make sure this reunion happened. A kind and wonderful man, named Ricky Erickson, who volunteered to pick Tony up in Durango and drive him to Denver so he could get back to JD.

Let this be a lesson to everyone, never give up on a true friend and companion –you never know what God may have in store for you all.
