Lachelt can restore dignity, trust to county

At a time when the political discourse in La Plata County has deteriorated to an astonishing degree, (“we” vs. “me”; “republic” vs. “democracy;” fear of sustainability and the United Nations) we are happy to be able to support Gwen Lachelt for county commissioner. We have known and worked with this incredible woman for more than 20 years. In addition to her intelligence and integrity, she has two qualities that will contribute greatly to our local government right now.

First of all, she believes in people. She believes in our ability to comprehend the complex forces of the world we inhabit. Secondly, she believes in our ability to come together and act in positive ways. Time and again we have seen her bring together farmers, ranchers, environmentalists, professionals and students to understand each others’ points of view in order to resolve their issues.

We remember many past commissioners, Republican and Democrat, who possessed these same qualities and therefore always treated the public with great respect – Rollie Roth, Bud Deering, Shirley Baty, Fred Klatt, Bob Leib and Josh Joswick, to name a few. We urge voters not to miss this opportunity to vote for this perceptive and hopeful candidate who can help to restore trust and dignity to the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners.
