In the first-in-embarrassment and last-in-contact department goes this author who was under the impression the Hillcrest Menís and Womenís Club Championships were going to be played last weekend.

However, because of the festive atmosphere of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, Hillcrest Golf Club moved its club championships to Sept. 29-30.

This gives me a good excuse to extend my weekly column to its finale Oct. 3.

Cyclists descended on Durango Ė and, in particular, Fort Lewis College Ė to launch the seven-day stage race from Durango to Denver. FLCís parking lots were bike-mechanic central for the 16 pro cycling teams in attendance.

Looking down the road, the 38th annual First National Bank 1-2-3-4 Person Best Ball tournament will be held Sept. 8 at Hillcrest, followed by the Louisaís Movie House and Electronics Fall Classic 2-Person Best Ball on Sept. 15-16.

Closer to our current date, the Ladies Team Play will tee off Thursday at Hillcrest, while a Couples Las Vegas Scramble will be held Saturday at Pinon Hills in Farmington.

The Hideout Golf Club will host its Seniors Championship on Saturday and Sunday.
